Practical Trigonometry

Last week as Year 9 were working on Trigonometry a student said they would like a lesson applying Trigonometry.

Today they were asked to calculate the height of the rail at the top of the stairs. They had a handout telling them how to make a clinometer.

After a little while they worked out what they had to do. Reading the clinometer created a couple of issues. When they completed their calculations a couple of groups realised their answer was unrealistic. It was then that they realised how they were meant to read the clinometer.

This exercise combined lots of previous learning and was a truly valuable experience.
