Human Locus Demonstration

Today I needed to teach year 11 about the circle and parabola as a locus.
My previous experience is that once you mention the word locus students freeze and never understand locus from there on in.
We currently teach two classes simultaneously with two teachers present. The other teacher volunteered to be the fixed point and as we held hands at arms length she turned and I became the locus, which the students could easily see as a circle.
I then asked half the class to form a line. Once again the other teacher was the fixed point and then using a length of wool we worked out the position of the point equidistant from the fixed line and fixed point. We took turns at placing the remaining students as this locus. Consequently we created a human parabola.
Then we proceeded with the necessary Maths.
